PayPal Business for an LLC: EIN, ITIN and verification
Prepare the company, owner, tax identifier, address, sales evidence, currencies and withdrawal account for a durable PayPal Business setup.
Do customers ask to pay with PayPal while your business operates through an LLC? The aim is simple: they recognise the seller, paying feels straightforward and funds reach the company bank account at a cost you understand. Opening PayPal Business is one step. Making it work with your sales, records and banking is the part worth getting right.
The LLC and EIN provide the corporate and tax foundation PayPal needs to identify the seller. Exentax aligns the legal name, state documents, governance, bank account, taxpayer identifier and activity into a verifiable profile ready to operate.
Which account the LLC should use
PayPal's US agreement includes businesses formed in the United States; the owner's residence and verification requirements are separate questions.
When the LLC invoices and accepts payment, the account should be Business and use its exact legal name. A brand or store name may appear to customers where supported, but it should not conceal the entity that is contractually responsible.
Prepare a company-controlled email address, legal name, business address, owners, representative, EIN, website or other activity evidence, linked bank or card and expected currencies before opening the account.
EIN, ITIN and SSN identify different parties
The EIN identifies the LLC; ITIN and SSN identify individuals. The IRS issues an ITIN for a federal tax purpose when someone is ineligible for an SSN. An application needs that purpose, not merely a payment account.
For tax confirmation, PayPal distinguishes the owner's TIN for a single-member disregarded LLC from the CFS/W-8 route for foreign taxpayer status.
We therefore separate proving which company sells from completing the tax certification relevant to its owner. Before submitting a form, we review the classification, name and identifier together. The result is a consistent submission, without reshaping company records just to fit a field.
Documents PayPal may request
PayPal's published guidance separates several categories:
| Check | Examples of evidence, depending on the request |
|---|---|
| Personal identity | Passport or other government photo ID |
| Home address | Bank statement, utility bill or admitted record |
| Business EIN or TIN | IRS letter or eligible official document |
| Business address | Bank statement, state filing, licence or current good-standing certificate |
| Entity existence | Formation record or other state-issued evidence |
| Trading activity | Website, invoices, contracts, orders and business explanation |
Names must match and documents must be complete, readable and current. A partial screenshot or a self-created invoice may not prove information that PayPal expects from an independent source.
Use the right address for the right question
The LLC can have a US Registered Agent and an owner who operates from another country. That is not inconsistent. The problem begins when the registered office is presented as the owner's home or as an operating location that does not exist.
Business-address evidence should support the address declared for the company. Personal evidence should support where the individual lives. Exentax separates those functions so each document answers the actual verification question.
Payments, currencies and withdrawals
PayPal can receive payments in several currencies and withdraw to compatible accounts under current product availability. Customer convenience should be compared with processing fees, FX and withdrawal rules.
The company should define which currencies buyers see, which currency appears on the invoice, where conversion happens, which bank receives funds, how often balances are withdrawn and what reserve is kept for refunds.
An LLC can sell to EUR customers and keep USD accounts. That does not make each receipt profit or each withdrawal an owner distribution. Accounting should separate revenue, processing fee, conversion, refund and bank payout.
Build an account that explains its own activity
PayPal reviews volume and behaviour over time. The website, company name, invoices and product description need to remain aligned. An account described as consulting but receiving hundreds of retail ecommerce payments creates a question that the records must answer.
Keep contracts or orders, invoices, delivery evidence, customer communication, accepted policies, payment references and payout statements. For physical goods, supplier documents also matter.
PayPal belongs inside a payment architecture
PayPal works best as a deliberate channel, not the only cashbox. It can complement Stripe, ACH, bank transfer or a marketplace payout. Some customers convert better when PayPal is available; others prefer direct card or transfer.
Exentax selects the combination based on activity, countries, ticket size and recurrence. We also review how funds reach the LLC and how they are recorded, preventing a convenient payment method from producing confused banking or accounts.
Match evidence to the type of sale
Physical goods rely on the order, delivery address, carrier event and receipt. Professional services rely on the accepted scope, milestones, deliverables and client communication. Digital products rely on account creation, access, downloads and support history. A generic screenshot is weaker than evidence designed around the transaction.
Keeping those records is commercially useful even when no dispute occurs. The LLC can measure refund causes, identify unclear promises and improve support while preserving a payment option that many international buyers already trust.
Responding to an additional review
If PayPal asks for more information, first identify whether the question concerns identity, address, company existence, tax number, activity or source of funds. Then provide the most direct current document rather than a bundle of unrelated files.
When a fact changed, preserve the chain from the former record to the new one. Formation certificates, IRS letters, statements and contracts prove different things. A controlled file keeps the company's story consistent across later reviews.
Questions about using PayPal with an LLC
Can I use my personal PayPal account for LLC sales?
Start by checking who owns the account and who contracts with the buyer. Changing a display name does not itself document a change of ownership. Exentax reviews the position with you and prepares the questions for PayPal before deciding whether to adapt the existing account or open the appropriate business account.
What should I prepare if I already have an LLC, EIN and bank account?
Compare the names and addresses in those records with your website and sales documents. Then identify the particular information PayPal is asking for. We use the documents you already have and fill genuine gaps, rather than treating an established company as a new formation.
Should the LLC charge customers in EUR or USD?
Start with the currencies your buyers and suppliers use. Compare the net amount after processing and conversion, not just an advertised rate. Charging in EUR, holding a currency balance and receiving USD at the bank are separate choices to cost before you set your prices.
Can Exentax help with an existing PayPal setup?
Yes. We can review account ownership, supporting documents and how money reaches the company, then coordinate the changes your situation requires. Tell us what you sell and where you want to operate; our team works through the structure and follow-up with you within the agreed scope.
How Exentax supports the setup
We form or integrate the LLC, coordinate the EIN and ITIN when it genuinely applies, organise ownership and authority, review addresses and prepare entity evidence. PayPal is then connected to the website, invoices, settlement account and annual operating calendar.
PayPal retains the onboarding decision. Exentax contributes what a serious application needs: accurate data, a verifiable company and a commercial activity that can be understood. That makes PayPal part of a broader international payment structure rather than an isolated account.
